  • More than 24 million passengers used the AENA network last august.

The number of travelers who have passed through the network of Spanish airports last August was the biggest in its history, as seen on the numbers that AENA released yesterday, confirming the good health of the tourism sector in Spain.

More than 24 million passengers passed through the AENA airports last month, representing an increase of 4.7% over the same month last year and continuing the upward trend of 22 consecutive months of growth. Furthermore, the number of domestic passengers increased almost the double in proportion than the number of international passengers.

The Madrid-Barajas Airport has become the first airport in number of users, receiving last month a14% more passengers than the same month last year but without exceeding its record August 2007. Meanwhile, Barcelona El Prat Airport managed to beat his own record this month.

The three airports at the Balearic Islands and the Alicante-Elche Airport also managed to beat their own records, this last one increased a 4% comparing to August 2014 data.

Ryanair, the preferred choice

Ryanair has been leading in the number of passengers increasing a 4,4% last year records, although the airlines that have grown more in this period were those belonging to the IAG group (British Airways, Iberia Express Iberia and Vueling).
