2015 has been the best historical year for the Alicante-Elche Airport, after receiving 10.5 million passengers throughout the year and surpassing in 500,000 passengers the previous best year recorded, which was in 2014.
One of the most striking facts of this past year has been the increase in domestic travelers who have used the facilities of El Altet, reaching more than 1,250,000 passengers, an increase of 9.1% over the year last. As every year, the international traveler, mainly UK citizens, remains the most important at Alicante Airport, although the increase in proportion was lower than that of domestic travelers.
As always, the most common nationality at Alicante Airport was the UK one, with more than 4,400,000 travelers, followed by Spaniards as noted before, with 1,250,000 passengers. Behind the Spaniards are German travelers, with about 750,000 passengers and Norwegians, Dutch, Belgians and Swedish are the other common nationalities at the airport.
The oeration numbers grew a 3,5% as Alicante Airport handled 74,084 flights last 2015.
The countries with more connections to Alicante were the UK, Spain, Germany, Norway, Holland, Belgium and Sweden respectively, which is also consistent with the more frequent nationalities at the airport facilities.
Another thing to consider was the huge increase in freight traffic, more than a 36% higher than last year.
December has not been an exception of the rest of the year and has had a strong growth of 16.9%, with over 608,000 passengers that place it as the best December in the Airport history, surpassing December 2007 which until now marked the historical record.
